abc application process for certification in an additional specialty

If you do not hold at least one certification, follow instructions on the main Application page.
Certification in an Additional Specialty
  • Certificants may sit for additional certification examinations. To sit for an additional examination, a certificant must complete an Application for Certification in an Additional Specialty (form 09-0309F), which must be submitted along with a $25 fee and the copy of authorization to perform casework in the relevant disciplines or equivalent training documentation.
  • A Request for ABC Examination Seat (Form 09-0310F) must be submitted 60 days prior to sitting for an examination.  This form may be submitted with the Application for Certification in an Additional Specialty.

Candidates who do not successfully complete an ABC examination will be notified of the review/appeal process.

Requirements to Retake an ABC Examination

Candidates who do not successfully complete an ABC examination must wait 60 days before they can sit for the certification exam again. Their application will still be considered active. A new examination sitting fee is required.

If an application is received from a candidate who previously sat for the same certification examination three (3) times without successfully completing the examination, a span of twenty-four (24) months must elapse between the date that they sat for the last (failed) examination and the date that they may sit for the same examination again. A candidate will only be allowed to take the same certification examination six (6) times total.
