Fellow - Forensic Biology

Forensic biologists examine and characterize biological evidence. They use various techniques to determine the nature of the biological evidence (e.g., blood, semen, etc.), determine whether it is from a human or other, and attempt to determine, through the use of genetic markers present in the material, the source of the material. They use a variety of analytical procedures including microscopy, presumptive chemical tests, immunological analyses, electrophoresis of genetically variable proteins and enzymes, and analysis of DNA using a variety of techniques. Forensic biologists are certified as Fellows in two different specialty areas: Biochemistry or Molecular Biology.
