Although some disciplines may require more than one external proficiency test per year, the ABC requires its Fellows to report only one.
The ABC accepts many types of proficiency tests, as long as they are EXTERNAL. External means that one obtains the proficiency test from a supplier outside your immediate laboratory, and one’s results are reported to someone outside your immediate laboratory. This does not mean that one must necessarily purchase a commercial proficiency test. Any group of three or more laboratories may organize a round robin type proficiency test, as long as the procedures outlined in the Proficiency Testing Program of the ABC Manual are followed.
Proficiency testing is reported on an annual basis, at the same time that professional development activities are reported. Forms are available on the ABC Web site. They must be submitted by June 1st.
The proficiency testing program is administered by the Proficiency Administration Committee and individual proficiency test data submissions are reviewed by the specialty proficiency review committees.
For more information concerning proficiency testing, contact the ABC Registrar.
