Fire Debris Examination

NOTE:  THE FIRE DEBRIS EXAMINATION WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERED AFTER DECEMBER 31, 2022.  If you wish to be certified in Fire Debris, you must successfully complete the examination prior to December 31, 2022.  Please be aware that applications and requests for examination seats must be received well in advance of any sitting.  Review application deadlines on the Application Process page.

The Fire Debris Examination is designed for an examiner who has worked in the field of fire debris analysis for at least two years and who is authorized to perform casework in the forensic analysis of fire debris.  

The examination consists of 200 questions, plus 20 pilot questions.  A portion of these examination questions are general in nature while a portion are specific to fire debris analysis.

The examination lasts up to 3 hours.
