Molecular Biology Examination

NOTE:  THE ABC IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE MOLECULAR BIOLOGY EXAMINATION.  WE WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERING THAT EXAMINATION AFTER JULY 15, 2023.

If you have an active application for the Molecular Biology Examination you will still be able to take the examination until your application expires. If you wish to take the Biological Evidence Screening and/or the Forensic DNA examinations instead of the Molecular Biology Examination, please contact the Registrar's Office for the next steps.

The Molecular Biology Examination is designed for an examiner who has worked in the field of forensic biology for at least two years and who is authorized to perform casework (physiological fluid characterization, DNA analysis, and interpretation) in the forensic analysis of biological materials.

The examination consists of 200 questions, plus 20 pilot questions.  A portion of these examination questions are general in nature while a portion are specific to forensic biology.

The examination lasts up to 3 hours.
Refer to the Certification Eligibility Requirements on the Certification page for the minimum qualifications for taking the Molecular Biology Examination.

The job description, examination breakdown, sample questions, and a bibliography for this examination can be found in the Study Guide.
