VACANT (Public Member)

The ABC is sponsored by various member organizations. Most of these member organizations are regional professional organizations in the United States, but the ABC By-Laws do not restrict membership to these organizations. Potentially, other professional organizations could become members of the ABC.

Member organizations pay yearly dues to the ABC, provide representatives to the Board of Directors, and host certification examinations at their annual or semi-annual seminars.

The most important function of the member organizations is to sponsor peer groups which form the management committees for each of the ABC certification examinations. These management committees are responsible for the development of new tests, and continuing support of existing tests by evaluating test performance, developing new test questions, and, in the case of new examinations, developing job descriptions and KSA's for each test.

The current ABC member organizations are:

  • American Academy of Forensic Sciences - Criminalistics Section (AAFS)
  • ASTM Committee E30 (Forensic Science)
  • American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD)
  • California Association of Criminalists (CAC)
  • Mid-Atlantic Association of Forensic Scientists (MAAFS)
  • Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS)
  • Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists (NEAFS)
  • Southern Association of Forensic Scientists (SAFS)
  • Southwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (SWAFS)
