Recertification

ABC certificates expire on the fifth anniversary of certification. The recertification program has been designed to encourage professional involvement and to ensure continued competency in the field of certification.

The recertification requirements are defined below in the form titled Point Structure (09-0608S).

Beginning January 1, 2021, the Rules of Professional Conduct (09-0001F) will be signed electronically.

ABC prefers electronic submission of recertification packets, however paper packets can still be mailed if desired.

ABC has developed a short presentation to assist you in completing the Recertification Form.

COVID RESPONSE NOTE:  If you are only submitting documentation for the purpose of reallocating the 10 points granted for 2020, you only need to submit the Recertification Declaration Form (09-0612F) which is the last page of the Recertification Reporting Forms found below.

Requirements

Due March 1:
  • Annual Maintenance Fee
  • Rules of Professional Conduct
  • If you wish to claim points:
    • Professional Development Report (09-0601F)
    • Recertification Declaration Form (09-0612F)
      • Note these forms are combined in the button to the right as “Recertification Reporting Forms”
Certificants will be placed on probation if Rules of Professional Conduct and maintenance fees are not received by March 1.

June 1:
Packets may be submitted up until June 1.

After June 1, no recertification points may be claimed and the certificant will be placed on suspension until the fees are paid and the Rules of Professional Conduct are received.

September 1:
After September, 1 certification will be revoked.

Submission of Professional Development Reports
PLEASE NOTE:
The ABC will not process or retain professional development reports if a certificant has met all of the point requirements for recertification.  Prior to completing professional development reports, please review your current standing on the Member’s Side of this website.

The points chart on the Certificants Only still breaks down the points using the old system.  To determine your points:

New Section I:  Combine OLD Sections I and II
New Section II: Total OLD Section III
New Specialty: Total Specialty (no change)

Members Side
Supporting records requirements are located in the Points Structure Document (09-0608S).

Recertification packets are reviewed by a committee of volunteers.  To assist the reviewer, please compile your packet as described below:
  1. Reporting Forms:  Fill out Professional Development Report (09-0601F). This form can accommodate up to two specialties.  When completed, the points for each section will automatically tally on the last page, the Recertification Declaration Form (09-0612F).  Please double-check these totals are correct.
  2. If you are reporting points for more than two specialties, complete another Professional Development Report (09-0601F).  You do not need to complete a second Recertification Declaration Form.  You will just add your tallied points from your second Professional Development Report to the Recertification Declaration Form.  Use caution if combining these forms electronically as the fields may be overwritten.  You may submit your second Professional Development Report separately, however make sure all of your points are tallied on your submitted Recertification Declaration Form.  If you have questions or concerns regarding this process, please contact the Registrar for more guidance (abcregistrar@criminalistics.com).
  3. Supporting Documents: Must be submitted for activities claimed on Professional Development Report.  Please compile documents in order (Section I, Section II, Specialties in the order reported) and upload supporting documents as one electronic file named Document type_Last Name_First Name_ Certificant Number (For example:  Reporting Form_Smith_John_1234).
  4. If you are submitting electronically you will be submitting your reporting forms and supporting documents as separate PDF uploads.
  5. Click submit if filling in electronically or mail if filling out paper copies.

In the event you need to re-submit your recertification reporting forms and/or supporting documentation, include the word "REVISED" in the file name to alert the reviewers.  NOTE: only the revised submission will be reviewed.

Additionally, we are seeking input from our current certificants on a new electronic form submission process.  After you complete your recertification submission for claiming 2020 points, follow the link below.  If you complete the form AND the survey, you will be able to claim 1 point in Activity 5 for 2021.  Please note that we are aware of some minor inconsistencies and formatting issues on the declaration form.  Those will be addressed before this form is formally deployed.   When completing this form, please use the same information and supporting documentation that you submitted for this year's packet.  If you submit your packet electronically, you will also receive a link for the test form via e-mail.  The link will remain open through March 1, 2021.
