Recertification

ABC certificates expire on the fifth anniversary of certification. The recertification program has been designed to encourage professional involvement and to ensure continued competency in the field of certification.
PLEASE NOTE:  The ABC has fielded a number of questions regarding claiming points for the new Forensic DNA and Biological Evidence Screening certifications.  As long as the workshop has relevancy to both screening and DNA, it can count for both.  There will be some overlap based on the examination blueprints which can be found on the relevant examination pages.  A certificant may claim the same workshop towards both certifications but cannot claim the same workshop in Section II AND the specialty.

Please note the following when completing your electronic packet:
  1. Professional Development Report (Recertification Form):  The electronic reporting form includes the Professional Development Report AND the Declaration in one form.  The reporting form can accommodate up to two specialties.  If you are reporting points for more than two specialties, you will need to create a second submission.  Only include the points for the additional specialties on the second submission.  If you have questions or concerns regarding this process, please contact the Registrar for more guidance ([email protected]).
  2. Supporting Documents: You must submit supporting documents for activities claimed on the Professional Development Report.
    1. Have all of your supporting documentation ready and in digital format.
    2. Each supporting document should be a separate file.
    3. File names should easily identify the document.
    4. We cannot accept Adobe Portfolios.
  3. The form will allow you to save your work and return.
  4. The ABC will not process or retain professional development reports if a certificant has met all of the point requirements for recertification.  Prior to completing professional development reports, please review your current standing in your certificant record on the Members Only Access of this website. The ABC will only review and confirm documentation to ensure that a certificant meets recertification requirements.   If you have met your recertification requirement, the points reflected on your points chart in your certificant record will reflect what was reviewed and may not reflect all points you claimed.
